Plimoth Plantation – Step Back in History

by

Thanksgiving is a time when most families in America gather around the table and take a day to remember what they are thankful for.  Some people also enjoy traveling during this time of the year.   If you are planning on spending your vacation in the Cape Cod region this holiday season, take  a day and take a trip back in time to Plimoth Plantation.

Plimoth Plantation is a recreation of the 1627 settlement.  Take a self-guided tour of the village and speak to the Pilgrims and ask about their voyage or the struggles of starting a new colony.  Actors stay in character so do not expect them to know much about the modern-day era.

Take a walk over to the Wampanoag Homesite and speak with members of the Native nations (there are a few different Nations represented here), and learn how their lives were impacted by the arrival of the Pilgrim settlers.

Or take a short trip and visit the Mayflower II, a full-size replica of the Mayflower.  You can climb aboard and speak with the crew and see what the voyage to Plimoth was like.

And just a note on what may look like spelling errors.  When Governor William Bradford was writing his history of the colony, he called it Of Plimoth Plantation.  The museum decided to use that spelling as so to differentiate from the modern-day Plymouth.

If you have never been, it is a fun way to spend the day.  The role players are very good at what they do and it is a fun way to brush up on your early American history and find out more about the people who are responsible for the Thanksgiving holiday we have come to celebrate.

During special weekends in November, there are opportunities to dine with the Pilgrims and enjoy a meal that they possibly would have enjoyed (maybe even close to the first Thanksgiving feast!).  Tickets for these Harvest Dinners sell quickly so be sure to reserve your seat at the table now!

Plimoth Plantation is about an hour’s drive from the Falmouth Resorts but well worth the trip!  Call Owner Services today to reserve your room at one of the InnSeason Vacation Club Resorts and enjoy yourself as you travel back in time!
