Ogunquit’s Winter Wonders

February 5, 2013

Everyone knows that Ogunquit is the perfect spot for a summer vacation.  You can tell by the number of people who travel there every year to enjoy the pristine beach and beautiful summer scenery.  However, a visit in the winter is when you can find the real magic of this quiet New England seaside town.

Ogunquit

Ogunquit loves to celebrate and they do it in grand fashion.  Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or St. Patrick’s Day, you can be sure to find many activities and specials at local businesses and restaurants.  Then there are the two big weekends in winter and early spring – Mardi Gras and Patriot’s Day. Ogunquit’s Annual Mardi Gras celebration is coming up (February 8 – 10) and with parades, activities, and events for everyone, showcases the true spirit of Ogunquit.

In April, Ogunquit is also host to one of the greatest Patriot’s Day celebrations (April 12-14) in New England.  With a weekend of events, there will be bazaars, treasure hunts, chances to learn about colonial life, and of course, a parade!

Dining in Ogunquit during the winter is a treat too!  The restaurants that stay open year round are some of the best restaurants in town!    There are less crowds and that usually means you don’t always need to have reservations (which are usually necessary in the peak summer months).  March 1 – 10 is Maine Restaurant Week and many of the restaurants in Ogunquit participate and offer some great dining specials.  You can enjoy live music at Jonathan’s.  Have brunch at Bintliff’s.  Even better, simply get a cup of chowder from one of the local places to go and enjoy it while parked at the beach with the best view imaginable!
